Beginning the Job Search
This assignment was extremely hard for me to do. I am already guaranteed a job with my school upon graduation. So it was hard to look for other jobs, that I may be interested in. I am considering returning to get my masters one day but for now I am really just concerned with getting my bachelors degree. I am forty one years old and I feel as though I have been in school for fifty years trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.
All job opening in my field require the same type of information. One must be licensed within the state they wish to teach, must want to help little minds grow. The candidate must be professional and able to connect conceptions, assumptions, processes of inquiry and ways of knowing to the discipline they teach. They must be able to use multiple representations and explanations of concepts that link the taught discipline to students’ prior understandings. A good teacher will need to use a variety of instructional methods ad strategies in order to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills.
I believe I meet all of these goals above. My first concern is to teach the babies what they will need to know to carry out life. Having been an assistant for five years I understand the need to be professional and the needs of the children. Children need a lot of understanding because they are not all equal in the same ways. Each child is different and had different learning abilities. This is why observation is an important role as a teacher. Things need to be taught in different way for different children to learn. I personally believe in a lot of hands on experiences, I feel you learn more by doing not just by reading or writing it.
I am really interested in teaching a higher grade such as fifth or sixth. I feel I can connect with these children and make learning fun for them. They may not feel like they are learning but I feel I can put it in a way they will be learning what they need to. I think school should not be all learn and no play, I think you will get more out of your students if you let them play a bit while they learn.
